About the German Catholic KAAD Scholarship

KAAD is the official scholarship organization of the German Catholic Church, supporting postgraduate students and researchers from developing and emerging countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America, the Near and Middle East, as well as Eastern and Southeastern Europe.

Eligibility Requirements for KAAD Scholarship 2026

To be eligible for the KAAD Scholarship in Germany, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• Be a citizen of a developing or emerging country in Africa, Asia, Latin America, or the Middle East and currently reside there

• Hold a university degree and have professional experience obtained in their home country

• Intend to pursue a Master’s degree or PhD at a German university, or undertake a post-doctoral research project (2–6 months for established university lecturers)

• Be a Catholic Christian or belong to another Christian denomination

  • Applicants from other religions may apply if nominated by Catholic partners and can demonstrate a strong commitment to inter-religious dialogue

• Possess German language skills before starting the program (KAAD may fund a German language course of up to six months in Germany)
